Frontal Zone
The frontal zone is the front portion of the scalp that includes the hairline and the area immediately behind it, extending laterally to the temporal recessions and posteriorly toward the mid-scalp. This region is clinically important because it frames the face and is where early hairline recession, frontal thinning, or scarring processes commonly become apparent.
Assessment of the frontal zone focuses on hair density, scalp condition, the position and shape of the natural hairline, and any signs of active inflammation or scarring. Causes of change in this area include androgenetic alopecia, traction-related loss, and inflammatory scarring alopecias, and management can involve medical therapies (for example topical minoxidil or oral finasteride), surgical restoration in appropriate candidates, or targeted treatment of underlying scalp disease following accurate diagnosis.
