Graft Anchoring
Graft anchoring describes the techniques and practices used to stabilize hair grafts after placement in the recipient area during a hair transplant. It encompasses factors such as creating appropriately sized recipient sites, correct depth and angle of insertion, use of implanter devices or forceps, and gentle packing or fixation so the graft maintains close contact with surrounding tissue while revascularization begins.
Successful anchoring helps prevent graft dislodgement, reduces mechanical trauma, and supports early graft survival, but it also depends on graft quality, surgeon technique, and proper post-operative care. Clinicians monitor for signs of poor anchoring such as loosening, persistent bleeding, or necrosis, and patients are advised on protective measures during the early healing period to maximize stability and long-term growth.
