Graft Density
Graft Density refers to the number of hair grafts present or placed per square centimeter of scalp and is commonly expressed as grafts/cm². It is a practical measurement used in hair restoration to describe how closely packed transplanted or native follicular units are, helping clinicians plan the distribution of grafts while protecting the limited donor supply.
Achievable graft density depends on factors such as hair caliber, the number of hairs per graft, scalp laxity, blood supply, and any scarring in the recipient area, so higher density may require multiple sessions or may not be possible in all patients. Understanding graft density helps set realistic expectations for appearance and coverage, guides surgical strategy for spacing and layering, and supports safe decision-making about how many grafts can be placed in a given area.
