Mid Scalp

Mid-Scalp

The mid-scalp refers to the area of the scalp that lies between the frontal hairline and the crown (vertex). It is an important region to assess because many common hair loss patterns — especially androgenetic alopecia in both men and women — first produce visible thinning here. Clinicians evaluate the mid-scalp for hair density, miniaturization of hair follicles, scalp health, and symmetry using clinical examination, trichoscopy, and sometimes photographic mapping to document progression.

Management decisions for mid-scalp thinning depend on the underlying cause, the extent of loss, patient age, and hair characteristics such as curl, color, and thickness. Medical options commonly include topical therapies and oral medications, while procedural approaches range from platelet-rich plasma and low-level light therapy to hair restoration surgery when appropriate; successful outcomes also depend on donor hair availability and realistic goals for density and coverage.
