Parietal Area

Parietal Area

The parietal area refers to the lateral and upper portions of the scalp on each side of the head, roughly between the frontal (forehead) region and the occipital (back of head) region. Hair in the parietal area typically follows the natural curvature of the skull and can include features such as parietal whorls or thicker hair shafts; its anatomy and vascular supply are important when evaluating patterns of hair loss or planning procedures that involve harvesting or implanting follicles.

Clinically, the parietal area is significant because its hair density, hair direction, and scalp laxity affect both the appearance of hair loss and the technical approach to restoration. Surgeons and clinicians consider the parietal area when mapping donor zones, designing graft placement to achieve natural flow, and assessing potential scar placement or tension that might influence healing and long-term results.
