Tumescent Solution 2

Tumescent Solution

Tumescent Solution is a medical mixture injected into subcutaneous tissue to produce localized swelling (tumescence), anesthesia, and hemostasis. In hair restoration it usually contains saline, a local anesthetic (commonly lidocaine), and epinephrine; the fluid both numbs the area and constricts small blood vessels, which reduces bleeding and hydrates tissue to make follicular unit extraction and graft placement easier and more precise.

Clinicians use tumescent solution in procedures such as FUE and FUT to improve visibility, reduce intraoperative blood loss, and provide prolonged local pain control. When given within safe dosage limits it is generally well tolerated, but possible adverse effects include temporary swelling, bruising, prolonged numbness, and—rarely—systemic local anesthetic toxicity or allergic reaction, so dosing and patient monitoring are important.
