Compression Garment
A compression garment is a tight-fitting piece of clothing made from elastic medical fabrics that applies even pressure to a treated area after surgery. These garments include abdominal binders, compression bras, thigh or arm sleeves and full-body suits, and they are used to support tissues, limit swelling, reduce bruising and help prevent fluid collections following procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck or breast surgery.
When correctly fitted and worn as directed, a compression garment can improve comfort, encourage more uniform healing and assist with contouring the operated area. Patients should follow their surgeon’s guidance on how long to wear the garment, how to care for it, and should seek advice if they notice increasing pain, numbness, unusual swelling, skin breakdown or signs of impaired circulation.
