Liposuction

Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from specific areas of the body through small skin incisions using a thin tube called a cannula and suction. It is intended to improve body shape and contour rather than serve as a primary weight-loss method, and it can be performed on areas such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, arms, neck and under the chin using techniques like tumescent, ultrasound-assisted or laser-assisted liposuction.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia depending on the extent of treatment, and recovery commonly involves swelling, bruising and temporary numbness that gradually improve over weeks to months. Good candidates are generally near their ideal body weight with stable weight and reasonable skin elasticity, and patients should be aware of possible complications such as infection, bleeding, seroma, contour irregularities and the occasional need for revision.
