Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle, rhythmic manual therapy aimed at stimulating the lymphatic system to move excess fluid away from swollen or congested tissues. The technique uses light, specific strokes and minimal pressure to encourage lymph flow, reduce postoperative swelling (edema), and support the removal of metabolic waste from the surgical area.

After plastic surgery, lymphatic drainage massage may be recommended by a surgeon or physiotherapist to speed resolution of swelling and improve comfort following procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck, or breast surgery; treatments should be started and timed according to the surgical team’s guidance and provided by a trained practitioner. It is not suitable for everyone—contraindications can include active infection, deep vein thrombosis, or uncontrolled cardiac conditions—so a clinical assessment is important before beginning therapy.
