Mastopexy (Breast Uplift)
Mastopexy (Breast Uplift) is an operation to lift and reshape breasts that have dropped or lost firmness, commonly due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes, or genetics. The procedure removes excess skin, tightens the surrounding tissue and repositions the nipple and areola to a more youthful location; surgeons choose from incision patterns such as periareolar (around the areola), vertical (lollipop) or inverted-T (anchor) depending on the degree of sagging and the desired shape.
The surgery is usually performed under general anaesthesia and recovery involves wearing supportive garments, managing swelling and avoiding strenuous activity for several weeks. Scars are a permanent trade-off but typically fade over time; potential risks include bleeding, infection, changes in nipple sensation, asymmetry and the possible need for revision, and mastopexy can be combined with breast augmentation or reduction when changes in volume are also desired.
