Pseudogynecomastia
Pseudogynecomastia refers to enlargement of the male chest caused primarily by excess fatty tissue rather than proliferation of glandular breast tissue. It commonly occurs with weight gain, aging, or hormonal changes and presents as a soft, often symmetric fullness of the chest; a clinical examination and sometimes imaging such as ultrasound are used to distinguish it from true gynecomastia, which involves glandular tissue.
Management begins with lifestyle measures like diet and exercise to reduce overall body fat, but when chest fat persists surgical options such as liposuction are frequently used to contour the area. If both fatty and glandular components are present, a combined approach of liposuction plus direct gland excision may be recommended after a medical assessment to determine the best treatment, expected recovery, and possible risks.
