Tumescent Solution 1

Tumescent Solution

Tumescent Solution is a specially formulated injection of large volumes of dilute local anesthetic (commonly lidocaine), a vasoconstrictor such as epinephrine, and saline, sometimes with added buffering agents. When infiltrated into the treatment area it causes tumescence—swelling and firming of the tissue—which provides prolonged local anesthesia, reduces bleeding by constricting blood vessels, and helps separate fat from surrounding structures to facilitate gentler removal.

This technique is widely used for liposuction and fat grafting to improve procedural safety and patient comfort and can reduce the need for general anesthesia, but it requires careful calculation of anesthetic dose and clinical monitoring to minimize the risk of systemic lidocaine toxicity and cardiovascular effects from epinephrine. Patients commonly experience temporary swelling, bruising, and numbness in treated areas, and clinicians follow strict dosing guidelines and postoperative observation to reduce complications.
