Vertical Scar Lollipop

Vertical Scar (Lollipop)

Vertical Scar (Lollipop) refers to a specific incision pattern used in breast surgery, most commonly for mastopexy (breast lift) and certain breast reductions. The pattern creates a circular scar around the areola with a single vertical scar extending from the lower edge of the areola to the breast crease, producing a shape that resembles a lollipop and allowing the surgeon to remove excess skin and reshape the breast while repositioning the nipple-areolar complex.

Compared with the longer anchor (inverted-T) incision, the vertical scar often results in less horizontal scarring and can provide improved breast contour for many patients, but it may not be suitable for very large-volume reductions. Outcomes such as scar visibility, nipple sensation, and breast shape depend on individual anatomy and healing, so patients should understand the likely scar pattern, wound-care needs, and possibility of scar revision when considering this technique.
